Dear Friends,
On Thursday, February 22, President George W. Bush presented the President's Volunteer Service Award to King’s Park International Church member Jamie Lathan just after landing on Air Force 1 at the Raleigh/Durham International Airport. Jamie was honored for his weekly commitment of mentoring for the past four years at the Youth Life Foundation of the Triangle in the Cornwallis Community in Durham.
The said foundation through its Youth Life Center Programs exists to benefit the lives of children and families living in low-income environments through daily after- school academic programs, teen leadership clubs, and parental guidance programs.
To thank volunteers for making a difference in the lives of others, our very own President Bush honors a local volunteer, through the Presidential Greeter Program under USA Freedom Corps (USAFC) when he travels throughout the United States. |

This award is carefully selected by the President and less than 600 volunteers have been recipients since its inception. USAFC is charged with building a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility in America. It also promotes and expands volunteer service in America by partnering with national service programs, working to strengthen the non-profit sector, recognizing volunteers, and helping to connect individuals with volunteer opportunities.
My sincere congratulation goes to Jamie Lathan for his years of devotion and dedication in serving at-risk youth living in and around the Cornwallis Community in Durham. I also want to thank and honor all of our amazing friends and members who give so much in volunteering to this ministry and so many others. This recognition is something we can all relish in, knowing that this team effort is making a difference in the lives of so many. I trust we can all praise God and thank the team and Board of the Youth Life Foundation of the Triangle. What started as a humble effort to honor Jesus in a "tough" place has been recognized by our President. “One day we will all reap a reward from the King of Kings, if we do not grow weary in well doing (Galatians 6:9-10).”
As the Youth Life Learning Center Programs of the foundation has been highlighted by most of the television stations and newspapers in and around the triangle area due to the presentation of the said Presidential Award, please pray this would precipitate a divine outpouring of financial support, volunteer participation, more city and state-wide partnerships, and Youth Life Center Programs to be established in other public housing communities throughout the City of Durham.
We give God thanks for every good and perfect gift that comes down from above.
Sincerely,

Pastor Ron Lewis
Senior Minister, KPIC
